#132: Dr. Paul Brunton and the Quest of the Overself -- How to Recover Sacred Glimpses You've Had Before

ONE: Question from Lisa on how to recover a profound and unifying inner life state, a state that seems now lost. TWO: Dennis asks about keeping a journal and Tom's insight on the best way he's found to use them. THREE: Question from John about connection with the Overself -- a reference used by the spiritual anthropologist Dr. Paul Brunton in his classic book Quest of the Overself, which is available through Amazon.com, or probably through your local library using inter-library loan.

I enhjoyed Lisa's comments, and found some similarity in my life. I went through a difficult experience and being an atheist did not turn to Truth for help till down on my knees. When i finally did I received an answer. and knew without a doubt that Truth existed. Then I sort of forgot about Truth as I went about my busy life but today, I find Truth is in my life much more. Answers come to me that I know are know from me.

Now you know there is no other authority, where is the burden of truth? Stepping forward in acceptance, I trust— having left nothing, what could be otherwise?

Tom & Fred, Your discussion of my question about the Overself was most interesting...as well as dialogue about the points raised by Lisa from Maine. I once met a woman from Greece who pointed out--as you both stated--that one can only insert energy [your own, personal energy] at a point in time...the present moment. The past is past, and the future is yet to be. That's the way it is.
And as far as seeking an identity with the Overself, I will be thinking further about this notion. It will take discipline and persistence and time for me to pursue this goal. Thank you for considering my question. Perhaps someone from Colorado will come forward and share their personal experiences.

      Hello John,
Just a quick note to say the aim of inner awakening is the most wondrous aim of all to pursue. SuperWisdom is all about using where you are now, the events and relationships of your life, the thoughts and reactions of the moment, to unfold this aim. It's wonderful we need not place it in time, or in a place with a so-called teacher. The inner teacher stirs to wake up, and always right now. (Tom - co-host)

Yes, many references in the podcasts to Maurice Nicoll. Fabulous writer, especially his book "The New Man" which delves into the inner meaning of the Bible. Delighted you found the site! (Tom)
